The Northwest Section welcomes you to USPSA Competition!  Here’s some important points to help get you started:

Get a Safety Check

Every shooter new to USPSA, competing in the Northwest Section, must complete a “Safety Check.”  This Safety Check must be conducted by a USPSA Range Officer before you may compete. See the list of Match Directors contacts for scheduling a Safety Check.

Get the gear together

  • Belt: secured by belt loops (or keepers to an inner belt)

  • Holster: Must cover the trigger guard and must not be a shoulder holster, thigh rig, or cross draw.

  • Mag pouches: At least two.

  • Magazines: At least three.

  • Firearm:  A safe and serviceable firearm of pistol caliber, at least 9mm

  • Ammo:  At least 200 rounds

  • Eye and ear protection

Most shooters will already have the required gear.  Make sure what you have is safe and in good working order, but don’t worry about buying new gear.  Shoot a few matches, then dive in with some new gear.

Get to know the Rules

The RO that conducts your Safety Check will run you through some of the rules but consider reading the rulebook at www.USPSA.org.

Important range safety rules:

  1. Every NW Section USPSA range is a cold range.  Firearms are not to be loaded unless you’re under the supervision of an RO.

  2. Keep firearms in a case or in a holster unless you’re in the Safety Area or under the supervision of an RO.

  3. Do not handle any kind of ammunition in the Safety Area.

Have Fun!

Make your first match a learning experience.

Most new shooters are intimidated by the fast pace and expensive gear of the more experienced shooters, but just relax and enjoy your first match!  Also, ask questions and get to know everyone.

Consider joining the Northwest Section, and USPSA for official competition, ranking, awards and more!
